The Second Day of Christmas

<<<<<The First Day of Christmas

Holden sat alone by the open fire of his new log cabin which he had procured through entirely legal means. He had planned a Christmas party for all of his friends, but they were all three hours late. Then, just as he was about to give up, there was a knock at the door.

"Oh boy!" he exclaimed, jumping from his armchair and racing to the door. He threw it open excitedly.

"Hey Holden. Merry Christmas." It was Dlanor. Holden's night was immediately ruined.

"I hope you have a terrible Christmas, Dlanor," Holden replied as Dlanor entered the cabin.

     "Is anyone else here yet?"

     "No, they're all running late."

"Holden, I was three hours late. I don't think they're coming."

"Of course they are! The weather is just delaying them all a bit."

"Holden, it's a beautiful day. Did any of them RSVP?"

"Yeah, everyone did. They all marked Will not attend. It's going to be hilarious when they all show up! Speaking of the RSVP, why are you here?"

"I marked Will attend. Didn't you get my card?"

"Yeah, but I thought you were joking like everyone else," Holden responded, puzzled.

     "Holden, I don't think--"

"Hey Dlanor, seeing as you insist on ruining my party, did you at least bring the chestnuts?"

"What? You never asked me to bring chestnuts."

"Well, it was kinda implied. How can you have a lit Christmas jam without chestnuts?"

"You should have asked. I was going to get some peanuts after this, but if I knew you wanted chestnuts I would have--"

"Holden pounced, pinning Dlanor to the ground. He grabbed at the fiery hair and pulled, ripping red head from his pasty body.

"That's why you always bring the chestnuts," Holden said darkly.

"Our hero quickly got to work chopping up Dlanor's body into little chestnut-sized bits. Once finished, Holden sat in his armchair by the open fire and roasted away.
